Your prayer opens in 5 steps

11. Wudu

How to make wudu, step by step

Before praying, you need to be in a state of wudu. Wudu is the purification made before salah.

Before starting, use the restroom if needed. Remove anything that blocks water from reaching the skin, such as thick paint, nail polish, glue, or similar barriers.

Then go to the sink and begin wudu calmly. Do not rush; make sure water reaches the places that must be washed.

1Make intention

Say inwardly or with your tongue: I intend to make wudu for the sake of Allah.

Then say: Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.

2Wash the hands

Wash the right and left hands up to the wrists three times.

Wash between the fingers carefully.

3Rinse the mouth

Take water into your mouth with the right hand.

Rinse and spit it out.

Do this three times.

4Clean the nose

Gently take water into the nose with the right hand.

Clean the nose with the left hand.

Do this three times.

5Wash the face

Wash the face from the forehead to below the chin and from ear to ear.

Do this three times.

6Wash the right arm

Wash the right arm including the elbow.

The elbow is included.

Do this three times.

7Wash the left arm

Wash the left arm including the elbow.

Do this three times.

8Wipe the head

Wet your hand.

Wipe the upper part of the head once with the wet hand.

This is called masah/wiping.

9Wipe the ears and neck

Wipe the inside and outside of the ears with wet fingers.

In some Hanafi circles, the neck is lightly wiped with the back of the hand; verify madhhab and local practice.

10Wash the right foot

Wash the right foot including the ankle.

Wash between the toes.

Do this three times.

11Wash the left foot

Wash the left foot including the ankle.

Wash between the toes.

Do this three times.

Your wudu is complete.

After wudu, prepare for prayer

  1. Make sure the place where you pray is clean.
  2. Face the qibla. If you are unsure, verify the qibla direction.
  3. Make intention for the prayer you selected.
  4. Begin the prayer by saying Allahu akbar.

How to use the results and tools responsibly

This section explains what the calculation tools use, why results may differ, and which checks matter before relying on them for important decisions.

Calculation limits

Qibla direction is calculated mathematically from latitude and longitude. Prayer times are technical estimates based on date, timezone, coordinates and the selected method. Phone compasses can be affected by metal, magnets, nearby electronics and poor calibration.

Local verification

For congregational prayer, fasting announcements, travel or public schedules, follow a trusted local mosque, competent religious authority or established local timetable. Reliable sources may differ by several minutes because of twilight angles, Asr convention, high-latitude rules or safety margins.

Translation and content quality

English and Turkish are the primary reviewed publishing languages. Other language versions remain available for users, while unreviewed or repetitive pages are kept noindex and do not load advertising until they have sufficient distinct value.

Reporting an error

If you notice a wrong city, timezone, bearing, translation or broken link, send the city, date, selected method and expected result through the contact page. Reports are reproduced and technically checked before corrections are published.
